An accent wall is one wall in a room finished differently from the others — with wood slats, molding, shiplap, wallpaper or a geometric pattern — so it becomes the focal point. Most of the accent walls we build in Central Florida cost $2,000–5,500 and take 2–3 days on site. Send a photo of your wall and we’ll give you a price range the same day.
What an accent wall is and who it suits
The idea is simple: instead of repainting a whole room, you put the effort and budget into one surface. In most homes that’s the wall behind the bed, the wall behind the sofa or TV, a dining room wall, an entry wall or the end of a long hallway. It’s a finish carpentry job, not a remodel — nothing structural changes, and the room is usually usable again in a few days.
Accent walls work well in a few common situations:
- New construction homes with flat, identical walls in every room, where the owner wants some character without moving walls.
- Bedrooms, where a wall behind the headboard does most of the visual work in the room.
- Living rooms where a full TV media wall is more than you need, but a plain painted wall feels unfinished.
- Short-term rentals around the Four Corners area, where one well-finished wall helps a listing stand out in photos.
- Offices and small commercial spaces that need a backdrop for video calls or a reception area.
Accent wall styles we install
Each style has its own page with photos and details. Here is the short version.
Wood slat walls
Vertical slats with even gaps, painted or stained, sometimes with a felt or dark backing between them. They add depth and work in modern and warm interiors alike. In Windermere we built a dark wood slat wall with inset brass-tone lines for about $3,100 in two days. In Kissimmee a slat wall hides a door so the room reads as one continuous surface.
Wainscoting and molding
Picture-frame molding, board and batten, raised panels or a chair rail with lower paneling. This is the most traditional option and usually the most affordable. A navy picture-frame molding wall in Melbourne came in around $2,000 and took two days; a larger molding project in Loughman was about $2,400 over three days.
Shiplap
Horizontal boards with a small reveal between them, almost always painted. Shiplap suits coastal, farmhouse and transitional rooms. Our painted shiplap wall in Winter Park ran about $4,900 and took three days, including finishing.
Wallpaper
Wallpaper and decorative panels are the quickest way to add pattern or texture. Wallpaper work starts from about $1,000. In Lake Nona we combined chinoiserie-style wallpaper with wainscoting below a chair rail for about $1,400 in two days.
Geometric accent walls
Angled slats, lattice and other patterns laid out on the wall. These take more layout time and more cuts. A geometric slat bedroom wall in Loughman cost about $3,500, and a geometric wood lattice entry wall in Haines City about $5,000.
Materials
What a wall is made of determines how it looks up close, how it handles Florida humidity, and how easy it is to repair later.
- Paint-grade MDF and primed boards are the usual choice for molding, board and batten and painted shiplap. They stay straight, take paint evenly and cost less than solid wood.
- Solid wood and wood veneer slats are used where the grain will show under stain or a clear finish.
- Pre-finished slat panels come with the slats already mounted to a backing, which speeds up installation on long, straight walls.
- Wallpaper and textured wallcoverings range from standard paper to heavier commercial vinyl. We used a textured commercial wallcovering in an office space in Dr. Phillips.
- Paint and stain are part of the job when the quote says so. Dark colors such as navy, charcoal and black are popular because molding and slats cast shadows that show the pattern.
Choosing the right wall
The best wall for an accent is usually the one you see first when you walk in, or the one furniture already faces — behind the bed, behind the sofa, or across from the entry. A few things to think about before you decide:
- Light. Slats, molding and shiplap show their pattern through shadow. A wall that gets side light from a window looks more dramatic than one lit straight on.
- Interruptions. A wall with two windows and a door leaves little surface for a pattern. A quieter wall nearby may be the better choice.
- What hangs on it. If a TV, mirror or large art will go on the wall, the layout should be planned around it, not the other way round.
- Color. Dark walls make a pattern stand out; a color close to the rest of the room keeps it subtle.
What drives the price of an accent wall
Two walls of the same size can be priced very differently. These are the main factors:
- Size and height. Square footage matters, but height matters more than people expect. Walls over 10 ft need ladders or scaffolding and take longer to lay out and finish.
- Material. Paint-grade molding costs less per square foot than stain-grade wood slats.
- Pattern complexity. A grid of rectangles is quicker than angled geometric work, where almost every piece is cut on both ends.
- Openings. Windows, doors, outlets, switches, vents and thermostats on the wall all need to be worked around and trimmed.
- Wall condition. Wavy drywall or old damage may need repair before anything goes on it.
- Finishing. A wall delivered primed is cheaper than one delivered caulked, filled and painted or stained.
- Extras. LED strips, a hidden door, floating shelves or a mirror niche add cost. A wood slat wall with an arched mirror niche we built in Sarasota was a larger project at about $7,500.
The calculator on this page gives a planning range from your wall size and material. It’s not a quote, but it shows how size and material move the number.
Our process
- Send a photo of your wall and its rough size by text, email or the form on this page.

Technical details
Timeline
A typical schedule: day one is layout, cutting and installation; day two finishes installation, filling and caulking; day three is paint or stain if the wall is delivered finished. Wallpaper and simple molding often finish in two days.
Electrical
Outlets and switches on the wall are extended to sit flush with the new surface. All electrical work — outlets, hardwired fireplaces, integrated lighting — is performed by a licensed Florida electrician. This includes LED lighting built into slats or molding.
Hiding wires
If a TV or speakers will hang on the accent wall, tell us before the build. It’s far easier to run low-voltage cables and add a recessed box behind the wall before slats or panels go up than afterward.
Room preparation
Please clear about 3–4 ft in front of the wall, take down art and shelves, and move fragile items out of the room. We handle floor protection and covering nearby furniture.
Cleanup
We vacuum at the end of every work day and take our offcuts and packaging with us. When the job is done, the room is ready to use.
