Orlando Metro: our home base

Accent Walls Florida is based in Orlando, so the metro area is where most of our days start. It is also where the housing changes most from one exit to the next, and that is the main thing to understand before planning a wall here.

West: new suburbs on old groves

West and southwest of the city, land that once held citrus groves has filled in with new subdivisions. Horizon West, south of Winter Garden, was approved village by village starting in the late 1990s, and Winter Garden itself went from roughly 14,000 residents in 2000 to nearly 47,000 in 2020. Around the Butler Chain of Lakes, the small town of Windermere and the gated communities near it hold large custom homes on the water and around golf courses. Dr. Phillips, an unincorporated area named for the citrus grower who once owned much of this land, is older and more settled, with Bay Hill and the Sand Lake Road corridor at its center.

Southeast: a planned district inside the city

Lake Nona, southeast of the airport, sits within Orlando’s city limits but feels like a separate place: a master-planned community built since the late 1990s around Medical City, with new neighborhoods still filling in.

Central and north: the older city

The oldest housing is near the middle. Orlando neighborhoods like Thornton Park, Lake Eola Heights and College Park took shape in the 1910s and 1920s, with bungalows and brick streets. Winter Park, just north, was incorporated in 1887 and has its own historic preservation program and register.

How that shapes the work

In the newer suburbs, walls are flat and framing is predictable, so the questions are about scale: tall family rooms, open floor plans, one long wall facing the sofa. Media walls with electric fireplaces, porcelain slab feature walls and full-height slat walls suit those rooms, and HOA rules on contractor hours and gate access are part of the planning.

In the older neighborhoods, the questions are about the house itself: plaster that isn’t flat, original trim worth keeping, wiring added over decades, and rooms laid out long before flat screens. There, painted paneling, shiplap, molding and carefully sized built-ins tend to fit better than a heavy floor-to-ceiling build.

Either way, the process is the same. Send a photo of the wall and we reply with a price range the same day. Measurements are free, with no trip fees anywhere in the metro, and any electrical work is done by a licensed Florida electrician.
