The task
The starting point was a long, empty living-room wall with a few outlets and nothing else. The goal was a full-width media wall with a fireplace, built forward from the existing wall so the fireplace and wiring could sit inside it.
How it came together
This project has the most complete set of in-progress photos we have, so it shows the whole build:
- Layout. The positions of the TV, fireplace and outlets were marked on the old wall before anything was cut.
- Framing. A new wood stud frame went up across the full width, with a separate box framed low in the middle for the fireplace and horizontal blocking where the TV mount would land.
- Sheathing. The frame was covered with OSB sheathing. That gives the finish panels a solid surface to fasten to and puts something stronger than drywall behind the TV mount.
- Fireplace opening. The linear fireplace opening was cut and trimmed, and the wiring for the fireplace, TV and lighting was brought into the cavity. All electrical work was done by a licensed Florida electrician.
- Finish. Light wood-look panels went on the center section, darker panels on the sides, and a floating base with an LED strip underneath finished the bottom edge.

Timeline and budget
Built in 4 working days in July 2026. Project budget: about $8,000, in the lower part of our $4,500–16,000 range for TV media walls. The full build-out framing is real work, but simple finish panels and no built-in shelving kept the total down.
