The task
A living room open to a second-floor landing, with a wall that runs the full double height of the house. The goal was a media wall big enough for that space: porcelain slabs around the TV, dark wood slats rising to the ceiling, a fireplace below, and detail on the tall side walls so the slab wall does not stand alone.
How it was built
This is the biggest project in our portfolio, and the photos and videos follow it from an empty wall to the finished room.
Layout. The slab arrangement was laid out full size on the floor with spacers before anything went on the wall, so the veining could be checked across every joint and the cuts planned in advance.
Substrate and slabs. The wall was prepared to carry the weight of large-format porcelain, then the slabs were lifted into place with suction lifters and set piece by piece from the bottom up. The finished slab section has softly rounded upper corners, and a concealed LED strip behind its edge makes it glow against the wood.
Slats. Dark wood slats cover the rest of the wall from the floor all the way to the double-height ceiling — the stage that needed tall ladders and the most time on the wall.
Fireplace and base. A linear electric fireplace sits in a built-in wood base below the TV. All electrical work, including the fireplace and the edge lighting, was done by a licensed Florida electrician.
Side walls. The tall side walls received painted wainscoting and molding panels, so the eye moves from the slab wall to the rest of the room without a jump in finish.
