Media Wall with Lit Display Niches and Linear Fireplace in Melbourne, FL

The task

Replace a plain wall with a TV hanging on it with a built-out media wall: a wide fireplace under the TV and a set of lit display niches to one side.

How it was built

The photos for this project cover every stage, from the empty wall to the finished room.

Framing. A new wood stud frame went up in front of the old wall. The left section was framed deep enough for the fireplace and TV; the right section was framed as a grid of openings that became the display niches.

Drywall and finishing. The frame was covered in drywall, with every niche wrapped and finished, then taped, mudded and sanded. Clean inside corners in the niches take patience, and they are what people notice up close.

Fireplace and lighting. A linear electric fireplace was set into a built-in base below the TV. Each niche got its own light at the top and a back panel of dark wood slats, so the objects on display stand out against a darker, textured background. All electrical work, including the switches for the niche lighting, was done by a licensed Florida electrician.

Trim and paint. Crown molding along the top ties the wall into the ceiling, and the whole structure was painted to match the room.

Timeline and budget

Built in 5 working days in September 2026. Project budget: about $13,700, in the upper part of our $4,500–16,000 range for TV media walls. The number of lit niches is the biggest single factor in that price.
