The task
Rework a wall near the foyer that had a freestanding vanity and a round mirror on a plain painted wall, and turn it into one composed piece.
What we built
Dark wood slats now run floor to ceiling across the wall. In the middle, the slats stop around a recessed niche with softly rounded upper corners, finished smooth and painted in a warm light tone. The round lit mirror sits centered in that niche, so it is framed by the slats instead of floating on a blank wall.
Below the niche, a long floating vanity cabinet in dark wood runs across the wall, with a tall cabinet at one end for closed storage. Because the vanity is wall-hung, the floor stays visible underneath it, which keeps a dark wall from feeling heavy in a bright entry with light stone floors.
The niche is the detail that took the most care: its curved corners have to be smooth and even, and the slats around it have to end cleanly on both sides of the curve. The mirror’s lighting was wired by a licensed Florida electrician.

Timeline and budget
Done in 3 working days in August 2026. Project budget: about $7,500. That is above our usual $2,000–5,500 range for accent walls because the job also includes the vanity and tall cabinet — in effect a slat wall and a custom built-in in one.
