Wallpaper is the quickest way to put pattern, color or texture on a single wall. Our wallpaper projects start from about $1,000, and a single accent wall usually takes 1–2 days on site, including wall preparation. Send a photo of your wall and we’ll give you a price range the same day.
What a wallpaper accent wall is and who it suits
A wallpaper accent wall uses one wall to carry a pattern or texture the rest of the room doesn’t. It’s the lowest-cost way to make a strong change, and it’s reversible. Large, bold patterns often look better on one wall than across a whole room.
Wallpaper suits:
- bedrooms, behind the bed;
- powder rooms and small spaces, where a bold pattern makes the room;
- dining rooms, above wainscoting or a chair rail;
- offices and commercial spaces that need a durable, textured backdrop;
- rooms where something less permanent than carpentry makes sense.
Wallpaper styles we install
Patterned and mural wallpaper
Florals, chinoiserie, botanical and geometric prints. Pattern repeat and alignment at seams matter here, and we plan the layout so the pattern is centered on the wall.
Wallpaper with wainscoting
Wallpaper above and molding or paneling below is a classic combination. In Lake Nona we installed chinoiserie-style wallpaper over chair rail and lower wall paneling for about $1,400 in two days. See our wainscoting and molding page for lower-wall options.
Textured and commercial wallcoverings
Heavier vinyl and textured wallcoverings hold up in high-traffic areas and offices. In Dr. Phillips we installed a textured commercial wallpaper in a commercial space for about $1,000.
Grasscloth and natural textures
Natural-fiber wallcoverings add warmth and texture. They need careful handling and show seams more than printed paper, which we discuss before you choose.
Decorative panels
Our wallpaper and panels category also covers decorative wall panels when they’re installed like a wallcovering rather than built as carpentry. For wood slats, see our wood slat walls page.
Materials
- Wallpaper — paper, non-woven, vinyl or natural fiber.
- Primer suited to the wallpaper type, so it bonds well and can be removed later.
- Adhesive matched to the paper; some papers come pre-pasted.
- Patching compound for repairing and smoothing the wall before hanging.
Choosing wallpaper for an accent wall
A few things make a big difference to how a wallpaper wall turns out:
- Scale of the pattern. Large patterns suit large walls and are seen from across the room. Small patterns read as texture from a distance and work in small rooms.
- Pattern repeat. A large repeat means more waste and more rolls. Check the repeat before you calculate how many rolls to order.
- Paper type. Non-woven papers are easier to hang and usually easier to remove later. Vinyl is the most durable and washable. Grasscloth and natural fibers are beautiful but show seams and are harder to clean.
- Order enough, from one batch. Rolls printed at different times can vary slightly in color. Order all the rolls you need at once, plus extra for waste and future repairs.
- The wall itself. Smooth walls give the best result. Heavily textured walls may need skim coating before any paper goes up, which adds time and cost.
Where wallpaper is not the best choice
Wallpaper doesn’t belong directly behind a sink or in a shower. In rooms with high humidity and no air conditioning, it may lift over time. In a busy hallway at kid height, a vinyl or commercial wallcovering, or wainscoting below the paper, holds up better.
What drives the price
- Wall size. More rolls and more strips.
- Pattern repeat. Large repeats waste more paper and take more time to align.
- Paper type. Grasscloth and heavy commercial wallcoverings take longer than standard non-woven paper.
- Wall preparation. Textured or damaged walls need skim coating or repair first.
- Openings. Windows, doors, outlets and switches add cutting.
- Combining with carpentry. Adding wainscoting or molding brings the price into the accent wall range.
As a reference, two of our 2026 wallpaper projects ran about $1,000 for a textured commercial wallcovering in Dr. Phillips and about $1,400 for wallpaper with wainscoting in Lake Nona.

Technical details
Most Florida homes have textured drywall, and wallpaper shows every bump underneath it. Depending on the paper, the wall may need to be smoothed before hanging. We repair holes, prime, then lay out the strips from the center or a focal point so the pattern is balanced and seams avoid the most visible spots. Outlet and switch covers are removed and reinstalled over the paper. All electrical work — outlets, hardwired fireplaces, integrated lighting — is performed by a licensed Florida electrician.
Clear about 3–4 ft in front of the wall and take down art and shelves. We protect floors and furniture and take all trimmings and packaging with us.
